Richard's film and television career spans an impressive 38 years. Undaunted by that fact, I have collected photos and video samples of those items found, but I am always looking for more.
Productions are listed chronologically from most recent work all the way back to 1975, so be sure to click "Next" at the bottom right hand side of each page and enjoy the trip down memory lane!

Doctor Who (2010, 2011, 2012)
Silurian scientist, Malohkeh first appeared in two episodes of Season 5: "The Hungry Earth" and "Cold Blood. 1 October, 2011 - Season 6 of Doctor Who and the episode "The Wedding of River Song", we find Malohkeh miraculously back and assisting Winston Churchill.....and here we all thought after "Cold Blood" he was dead!!!
8 September, 2012, Season 7 and Richard plays another Silurian named Bleytal in "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship".
And ladies, whenever you think your morning makeup routine takes too long......try getting the silurian makeup applied...which Richard told me took 3.5 hours!

Possession (2010)
Richard had a small but crucial role in this film short and plays a character named William Hogg, a journeyman faced with a serious moral dilemma when he's called to board up a plague house in York.
The film is based on the prologue of a book in development and the film will act as a taster for a feature. Possession is the story of Becky, a young girl, who although she's not sick, is boarded up with her plague-ridden family. When the plague hit York in 1665 burial space became scarce. Many of the gentry left the city and the population of cats and dogs was been decimated leaving the rats and the plague to run out of control. Finally the fearful city populus charged the trades with boarding up infected families in their homes. But the rule was - you were incarcerated with your family whether you were infected or not.

In the episode entitled "Running On Empty", Richard gave a very likeable, sensitive portrayal of the character Christopher Gamble. Another YouTube exclusive while it lasts, the entire episode is here: Holby City
However, I have provided the following snippet of Richard's performance:

Eastenders (2008)
From June 11 through July 28 of 2008, Richard appeared as Ted Hubbard, the love interest for June on Eastenders. I found these lovely photos on an Eastenders fansite and diligence has finally paid off as I found some footage of Richard's performance:
Agatha Christie's Poirot - Superintendent Harold Spence (2006 & 2008)
For anyone who has read the Agatha Christie novels, Richard's faithful portrayal of Superintendent Harold (Bert) Spence was absolutely perfect. Superintendent Harold Spence was only featured in four Christie novels: "Taken At The Flood", "Mrs. McGinty's Dead", "Hallowe'en Party", and "Elephants Can Remember".
In 2006 we were introduced to his interpretation in "Taken At The Flood". You can view a film trailer of this at this link: Taken. I also found this lovely behind-the-scenes look at the filming here

2008 saw Richard reprise his role in the adaptation of "Mrs. McGinty's Dead"You can view the clip of a "teaser" here: McGinty
For unknown reasons "Hallowe'en Party" was filmed without Superintendent Spence. No one asked my opinion. I am in hopes the producers, writers, etc...will include him in Elephant's Can Remember.
The Wild West (2007)
copyright Richard Hope
From the episode entitled "The Gunfight at the OK Corral", Richard played the resolute Judge Spicer. I have to say I was amused, at first, at the prospect of the BBC recording the American west accurately, but after viewing it, I was won over. Firstly, all of the British actors affected perfect American accents....not only American accents, but Southern accents, to boot! Not one of them sounded false or faked. The story is told in documentary style and the historical aspects re-enacted to perfection. It was filmed near Tucson, Arizona with the Tucson Reenactment Society playing the crowd in court.....they even came with their own moustaches! If you can catch this on BBC or buy the DVD on ebay, do so, as I highly recommend it. I have provided the courtroom scene:Midsomer Murders - "They Seek Him Here" (2007)
This was a fun little episode!
The setting is Midsomer Magna where the crew of a new film version of The Scarlet Pimpernel are at loggerheads, the producer hates the director and the director can't stand the producer and the owners of the manor house where the film is being shot.....all this surrounded by French Revolutionary costuming. Silent Witness: Mind and Body (2005)

From the Silent Witness series, Richard gave a compelling performance as Dr. Morrie Sanders, a man who runs a clinic called January House and is perplexed as to why his patients with mental disabilities are committing suicides or murders. I have provided a small scene: Mind & Body The entire series is available through Amazon.com

Bloom (2004)
Richard plays the part of next-door-neighbor Richard Neap in this adorable film short, also starring Amanda Root and directed by Martin Gent. The synopsis of the story is: Helen Chapman lives alone in her tidy flat and keeps herself to herself. She has never even spoken to the man next door. Never, that is, until the night she discovers something peculiar growing out of her carpet. Mr. Gent's site allows the short to be shared, so I have included it here. Enjoy!

Sergeant Pepper (2004)
Well, for now I've only managed to find a short clip of this film....in German, but here's the link until I find more:
Murder Investigation Team (2003 & 2005)
This crime drama was spun off from "The Bill", and Richard had the part of DS Barry Purvis.
I had provided a link to one of the episodes, but Fremantle Entertainment pulled the clip...which I find amusing since the series was no CSI by any means and the best part of it was Richard's performances, so I was doing them a favour!Memorable TV.com has a wonderful article interviewing the entire cast. Richard spoke about the character of DS Barry Purvis and the research involved MIT
William and Mary (2003)
William picks midwife Mary from her photo on an Internet dating site, but a pregnant woman with cancer interrupts their first date.
Richard had a small, but respectable showing in this one. Episode 1 is available in its entirety W&M

Foyle's War (2003)
From the Foyle's War episode entitled "The Funk Hole". Richard's portrayal of Frank Vaudrey, a man whose nerves are shot due to the strains of the war, is spot-on. The pivotal scene between Vaudrey and that of Nicholas Farrell's character is provided here:
2003 Holby City - Beneath the Skin
I found Richard's performance as Roger Sandford in the Holby City Episode "Beneath the Skin".
For at least the time being it can be viewed Here

BBC - The Canterbury Tales (2003)
Richard had the part of Arty's father in "The Pardoner's Tale". I have provided a small scene and I found select scenes from it, but not the full episode as yet.

Richard's part was Dr. Archie Henderson and his first appearance is in Part 5 together with Celia Imrie. Here's the link: Acid

From the episode "The Romeo Trap", Richard turned in an amazing performance as Dr. Kingswood. You can order the entire series from amazon.co.uk and I have included a small scene here:
The Bill (2001)
From the episode entitled "Temptation", the synopsis is as follows:

Midsomer Murders - "Judgement Day" (2000)
This episode has been placed YouTube in its entirety. Richard's performance was superb, although a bit too small for my tastes. His range was magnficent, going from mild-mannered to outraged in an instant. A must-see. View the episode here: Judgement Day
Reach For The Moon (2000)
Children of the New Forest (1998)
This story set in the 1640s, during the time of the English Civil War, is highly entertaining. Colonel Beverley, a Royalist and High Keeper of the New Forest dies at the Battle of Naseby, leaving four children to fend for themselves. The children are smuggled out and taken in by Jacob Armitage, who is a forester and hidden there. Richard does a marvelous job as Heatherstone, who is the new Intendant of the New Forest. I have provided a clip conf

“Where there’s Hope there’s drama...” before Democracy he was filming Mr Morgan’s Last Love, playing an American philatelist. Prior to that he was at the National Theatre, having spent the previous year in the musical, Dirty Dancing, in the West End. “I had to sing and I had to dance, things I had never done before,” he says.
It’s a neat snapshot of the sheer variety of his career. “I am a character actor and have worked with a whole variety of companies, European and English,” says Hope, from the experimental (Complicite) and the surreal (Ken Campbell) in theatre to mainstream TV from soaps to the green-headed alien Malohkeh in Dr Who, from Pierre in ‘War and Peace’ to Hooper in ‘Brideshead Revisited’.
“My first TV job was with Laurence Olivier,” he recalls. “Buffet lunch and maid service: I thought this looks very nice, I should do more TV”.
